HEY YOU ..DIFFERENCES? YEA hey you ..whoevers reading this ..please help me can u tell me the difernce between polymer clay and normal clay ? what is the difference? I am doing my art project and I want to make 3D candies ..so should i be using normal clay or polymer clay ? Polymer clay actually contains no clay, and is made of a form of PVC. It's that FIMO stuff you can get in art shops. It has a much smoother form than clay, and can be cooked in a normal oven, creating a smooth, matt surface which can then be painted over with a special polymr clay glaze. Because it is PVC it can't be painted easily, but it comes in every colour possible, so you make it up using the colours you expect, and have no surprises with quality of glaze, etc, as you would with normal clay. Regular clay, depending on its consistency can have less of a smooth appearance (sometimes grainy if it has a sandy base), and is slightly less predictable because it is more delicate and can break during firing, and glaze colours can vary. It can, however, be painted on and glazed after firing. I guess it all depends on the effect you want to achieve in your project. It would look more realistic to use the polymer clay to make the candies, but you might prefer the less real but very home-made and arty effects you might get from using the real thing.
